Chat

Talk with your hosts, vendors, and team in one place, so the details stay with the event.

  1. Open the event and go to the Chat tab.
  2. Pick a channel on the left. General includes everyone working on the event, Hosts is just you and your co-hosts, and each vendor team gets its own channel.
  3. Type in the box at the bottom and press Enter to send. Shift and Enter starts a new line.
  4. Hover a message to reply to it, edit your own, or delete it.
  5. Click the plus next to Channels to start a group with only the people you pick.
  6. Use the settings button in the channel header to choose how often that channel notifies you, and to see who is in it.
  7. For a group you started, that same panel is where you add or remove people and where you can delete the group.

You will need an event exists first.

Start a group chat

Start a side conversation in Chat with only the people you pick, instead of talking in front of everyone.

  1. Open the event and go to the Chat tab.
  2. Click the plus button next to "Channels".
  3. Give the group a name, like "Couple and coordinator".
  4. Pick the people who should be in it. Guests are never listed, because chat is for the people running the event.
  5. Click "Create group". It appears under Direct in your channel list, and only the people you picked can see it.
  6. To change who is in it later, open the group and click the settings button, then add or remove people under "Who is in the group". Only a moderator or whoever started the group can change it.

You will need an event exists first.

Chat notifications

Choose how loudly each chat channel reaches you, and see who is in it.

  1. Open the event and go to the Chat tab.
  2. Pick the channel you want to change.
  3. Click the settings button at the top right of the conversation.
  4. Choose Everything, Mentions, or Nothing. Mentions is the default for busy channels.
  5. Muting stops the channel from adding to your unread count, but you are still told when someone mentions you by name.
  6. For a group you started, the same panel is where you add or remove people, and where you can delete the group.

You will need an event exists first.

Rename a group chat

Rename a group you started. General, Hosts and the vendor channels are named after the event itself and cannot be renamed.

  1. Open the event and go to the Chat tab.
  2. Pick the group you want to rename.
  3. Click the settings button at the top right of the conversation.
  4. Group name is the first thing in the panel. Change it and click Save.
  5. The new name appears everywhere at once: the channel list, the conversation header and the message box.
  6. Only groups can be renamed. General, Hosts and each vendor channel are named after the event and the vendor, and rebuild themselves, so renaming one would not stick.
  7. Whoever started the group can rename it, as well as the hosts, so a group named badly by the person who made it does not need a host to fix.

You will need a group you started or can moderate first.

Delete a group chat

Delete a group chat you started. General, Hosts and the vendor channels are part of the event itself and cannot be removed.

  1. Open the event and go to the Chat tab.
  2. Pick the group you want to remove.
  3. Click the settings button at the top right of the conversation.
  4. Scroll to the bottom and choose Delete group, then confirm.
  5. The conversation and any files shared in it are removed for everyone. This cannot be undone.
  6. Only groups can be deleted. General, Hosts and each vendor channel come from the event and rebuild themselves.

You will need a group you started or can moderate first.

Send a file in chat

Send photos and documents in a chat channel, so the file lives with the conversation about it.

  1. Open the event and go to the Chat tab, then pick the channel.
  2. Click the paperclip button to the left of the message box.
  3. Pick one or more photos or documents. Images, PDFs, Word, Excel, CSV, and plain text are accepted, up to 25MB each.
  4. Each one appears above the message box. A photo shows a thumbnail you can click to check it full size before you send, and the x removes anything you picked by mistake.
  5. Add a note if you want one. A file on its own is fine, so you can send without typing anything.
  6. Press Send. Images show inline in the conversation, and everything else appears as a file you can tap to open.
  7. Only people in that channel can open the file, and the link a file opens with expires after a few minutes.

You will need an event exists first.

Mention someone in chat

Mention someone by name so they are told about the message even if the channel is muted.

  1. Open the event and go to the Chat tab, then pick the channel.
  2. Type @ in the message box, then start typing the person’s name.
  3. Pick them from the list that appears. On a computer you can also use the arrow keys and Enter.
  4. Their name goes into the box inside square brackets. That is how the message box shows a real person rather than typed text, and the brackets are replaced with their name when you send.
  5. Send the message. They are notified straight away, even if they set that channel to Mentions or Nothing.
  6. Only people already in the channel can be mentioned, so a mention never reaches someone who cannot read the message.

Reply to a message and read a thread

Reply to one particular message so the answer stays attached to what it answers, and read all the replies together in one place.

  1. Open the event and go to the Chat tab, then pick the channel.
  2. Hover the message you want to answer and open its actions menu, then choose Reply. On a phone, press and hold the message instead.
  3. The message you are answering appears above the box while you type, and an x there cancels it.
  4. Send. Your reply shows in the conversation with a quote of the message it answers.
  5. To see the message a reply is answering, tap that quote. The conversation jumps to the original and highlights it for a moment, loading older messages first if it needs to.
  6. If the original is too far back to load, the thread view opens instead and shows it there with all of its replies.
  7. Once a message has replies, a replies count appears under it. Open that to read the message and every reply to it together, and to add another reply without scrolling back.
  8. Replies stay in the main conversation as well, so nothing is hidden from people who did not open the thread.
